Five Things Fans Should Know About ESPN’s New Direct-To-Consumer Offering
For the first time ever, fans will be able to buy ESPN networks directly starting this fall. At the same time of the launch of that direct-to-consumer (DTC) streaming offering will be the rollout of a significantly enhanced version of our ESPN App.
As a result of these two initiatives, ESPN is giving fans more choice, more flexibility and ultimately more access to the content they love. Here are five things fans should know as we get ready to launch a new way to experience ESPN:
1. It’s called “ESPN.”
- We’re naming our DTC streaming service “ESPN” as there is trust and power in the name. It’s simple, straightforward and clear – ESPN is the place of record for multiple generations of fans and represents the very best in sports.

2. All of ESPN. All in one place.
- We will offer two flexible plans when we launch. The unlimited plan ($29.99/month) will give fans access to all of ESPN’s content, including all our linear networks, ESPN on ABC, ESPN+ and more. There will also be bundling opportunities for the ESPN unlimited plan with Disney+ and Hulu, including a special offer at launch for $29.99/month for the first 12 months. And if you’re a bundle subscriber, you’ll get ESPN on the Disney+ platform, which will be another frictionless way to access ESPN alongside all the award-winning content Disney offers. The select plan ($11.99/month) will give fans access to all content available on ESPN+ and existing ESPN+ customers will automatically become subscribers to the select plan.
3. The enhanced ESPN App is the front door.
- The enhanced ESPN App will offer fans a more powerful, personalized experience – all built into the preeminent digital sports destination. We’re adding new features, more personalization and smarter functionality – all designed to meet fans where they are, on their terms.
4. Cable subscribers are covered.
- In addition to ESPN DTC subscribers, fans that access ESPN through a traditional pay TV provider, e.g. Comcast, DirectTV, Hulu + Live TV, YouTube TV, will also have access to the new features through the enhanced ESPN App.
5. ESPN will announce a DTC launch date soon.
- While it’s been announced that the DTC offering will launch in early fall, the exact launch date has yet to be determined and will be announced in the coming weeks.
