‘Homecomings’ for Dilfer, Young

Former NFL quarterbacks, Steve Young (l) and Trent Dilfer were both drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1984 and 1994, respectively and are returning to Tampa as colleagues on ESPN's NFL Monday Night Countdown.

The Indianapolis Colts-Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ clash tonight on ESPN’s Monday Night Football (8:30 p.m.) might inspire some sentimental memories for analysts Trent Dilfer and Steve Young.

Each is a former Buccaneers quarterback working as part of ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown’s pre-game, in-stadium studio coverage.

Each toiled for years as a Tampa quarterback before winning a championship with another franchise: Dilfer with the Baltimore Ravens, Young with the San Francisco 49ers.

On Sunday, The St. Petersburg Times published an interview with Dilfer about his Tampa playing days.

After being drafted with the sixth overall pick, Dilfer spent the first six years of his career in Tampa. In both the 1997 and 1998 seasons as a Buc, he threw 21 TD passes and was selected to the 1997 Pro Bowl.

Last week, ESPN Front Row gave you former Buccaneers coach Jon Gruden’s thoughts before calling his first game in Tampa as an MNF analyst.

Trent Dilfer hoists the Super Bowl XXXV trophy in 2000, after he and the Baltimore Ravens beat the New York Giants, 34-7. Dilfer completed 12 passes for 153 yards and a touchdown in the game.
