With the recent launch of ESPN The Magazine‘s Fourth Annual Body Issue, Front Row sits down with senior deputy photo editor Nancy Weisman to get some insight on what it takes to make edition “magic.”
Weisman, a photo editor with The Mag for the last 12 years, has been responsible for hundreds of photo shoots — from concept and coordination to execution — and reflects here on the shift in mindset and challenges the Body Issue presented upon its inception.
In the “Front & Center” podcast above, she discusses the changes and reactions from the very first Body Issue to the most recent, which Weisman feels is the best they have done to date, noting this as a significant career highlight for her. There’s also a riveting account regarding an especially challenging shoot that involves winding roads, rattlesnakes, weak knees and NBA standout Tyson Chandler.
Below is a gallery of pictures, many of them taken behind-the-scenes of the shoots, featuring subjects including NFL star Rob Gronkowski, Chandler, jockey Mike Smith and many others.
