Syracuse University’s Newhouse Sports Media Center honors ESPN’s Sean McDonough

Sean McDonough accepts The Marty Glickman Award.

ESPN’s Sean McDonough was honored by Syracuse University’s Newhouse Sports Media Center on Monday night in New York City with The Marty Glickman Award for Leadership in Sports Media. McDonough, who graduated from Syracuse in 1984, is just the fourth recipient of “The Marty,” named after the Syracuse alum and legendary sports broadcaster. ESPN’s new Monday Night Football voice joins a prestigious group that includes Bob Costas, Marv Albert and ESPN’s Beth Mowins, who received the honor in 2015.

The event’s guest list included Syracuse alums and broadcasting professionals from throughout the industry. During the formal program, speakers included McDonough’s former college basketball partner Bill Raftery (now of Fox Sports), his Syracuse classmate Dan Hoard (the Cincinnati Bengals play-by-play voice), and ESPNers Jason Benetti and Mowins, who presented McDonough with the award. ESPN attendees included President John Skipper and multiple producers who have worked with McDonough through the years – Bill Bonnell, Bo Garrett, Ed Placey and Jay Rothman.
