Senior coordinating producer Maria Soares provides an inside look at how ESPN will provide up to 1,000 hours of exclusive, live coverage in English and Spanish on multiple platforms

LIMA, Peru – The Opening Ceremonies for the 18th edition of the Pan American Games, being held here through Aug. 11, air tonight on ESPN platforms.

The Pan Am Games are the third-largest multi-sport Games – surpassed in size only by the Olympic Summer Games and the Asian Games.

The competitions here represent an important point of the Olympic cycle, with 22 qualifiers to the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics.

Lima 2019 will feature 39 sports, 62 disciplines and bring together 6,700 athletes – representing 41 countries – in 19 days of competition.

ESPN is ready to bring 18 months of preparation to life with up to 1,000 hours of exclusive, live coverage in English and Spanish, across ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN Deportes, ESPN3, and the ESPN App combined. ESPN’s coverage also can be seen in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.
