‘The amazing women of Longhorn Network make us go’

Longtime LHN host Lowell Galindo shines the spotlight on his colleagues in a new video

Lowell Galindo, lead anchor for Longhorn Network since its August 2011 launch, is widely known for his role as host of LHN’s signature shows Texas GameDay, Longhorn Extra and Longhorn Weekly. He works daily with the network’s talented leadership team including coordinating producers Ande Wall and Pat Lowry among others.

The amazing women of Longhorn Network make us go. And as one of the people that benefits the most from their leadership, it’s the least I can do to say thank you and promote the work they do. — LHN host Lowell Galindo

While Galindo is a fixture in front of the camera, he is also a skilled producer and ally for his female colleagues at the network’s Austin, Texas headquarters. When asked to produce a piece highlighting his Longhorn Network colleagues for Women’s History Month in March, he didn’t hesitate.

“The amazing women of Longhorn Network make us go,” Galindo said. “And as one of the people that benefits the most from their leadership, it’s the least I can do to say thank you and promote the work they do.”

It’s fitting that he took a considerable amount of time to produce this piece showcasing the women at LHN because he’s always been an advocate and ally for women in this industry. And it’s not just because I have 40 pounds on him and he knows I can beat him at arm wrestling. – LHN coordinating producer Ande Wall regarding Lowell Galindo

Wall values the extensive skill set Galindo brings to LHN and his advocacy of women in the industry.

“Lowell and I have worked together since the launch of LHN, and he’s not only an incredibly talented host but a great producer as well. Whether it’s a script, a shoot, or a show idea, Lowell makes everything we do better at LHN,” said Wall. “It’s fitting that he took a considerable amount of time to produce this piece showcasing the women at LHN because he’s always been an advocate and ally for women in this industry. And it’s not just because I have 40 pounds on him and he knows I can beat him at arm wrestling.”

“We have such an amazing staff at Longhorn Network. The majority of our leaders by title – and more importantly, action – are women. It’s really been this way since we launched more than a decade ago. I’ve never really taken the time to think about how unique this is,” added Galindo.
