Bernardo Osuna On NAHJxNABJ Convention And Career Fair In Las Vegas

Boxing analyst Bernardo Osuna emphasizes the importance of helping ESPN mentor and recruit a diverse group of storytellers

LAS VEGAS – For ESPN’s boxing commentator Bernardo Osuna attending the NAHJxNABJ Conference and Career Fair means he get an opportunity to connect, share advice with and learn from the next generation of journalists of color.

Osuna, who joined ESPN in 2011, is the lead bilingual commentator and reporter for ESPN and ESPN Deportes’ boxing coverage.

At the convention in Caesars Palace, he has interacted with many storytellers but particularly student journalists, sharing his story and simply letting them know that “Si Se Puede” (Yes You Can).

“Attending the conference has meant going back to my roots,” he says. “Having the opportunity to connect with these young journalists, hearing their hopes, and seeing how they see me as what is possible for a Latino journalist to accomplish, has been humbling and inspiring.”

In the video above, Osuna shares his thoughts on the role NAHJ plays in cultivating Latino journalists.
