Artie Bulgrin

Artie Bulgrin is ESPN’s senior vice president, global research & analytics. He joined ESPN as vice president, research and sales development in February 1996 and was promoted to senior vice president in 2001. He assumed his current title in 2008. Before joining ESPN, he had been director, research and sales data services, at Capital Cities/ABC National Television Sales, Inc. since 1989. Bulgrin supervises a staff which provides audience and market research services to all divisions of the company including programming, domestic and international ad sales, affiliate sales, and consumer marketing. Responsibilities include the evaluation of audience research in the U.S. (both TV and digital analytics) and Latin America, and the coordination of proprietary and syndicated market research to support all divisions of ESPN. He also manages ESPN’s interest in the ESPN SportsPoll, a service of TNS Intersearch and the leading provider of consumer intelligence about the sports fan and sports sponsorship in the U.S. The goal of the department is to provide research that helps to understand and extend the ESPN brand, increase distribution, grow target audiences, and develop new revenue opportunities. Before joining ESPN, Bulgrin was director, research and sales data services at ABC National Television Sales since 1989. While there, he was responsible for national sales research operations for all Capital Cities/ABC-owned television stations. He also managed the evaluation and positioning of new place-based media companies represented by Cap Cities/ABC New Media Sales. While at Capital Cities/ABC, he was chairman of TVB’s National Sales Advisory Council Research Committee. Prior to joining Capital Cities/ABC in 1989, Bulgrin spent nine years at Nielsen Media Research, rising to vice president, service development where he was responsible for the development and marketing of PC based data applications for all Nielsen clients. Bulgrin received a bachelor of science degree in marketing in 1980 from the C.W. Post College of Long Island University. He is a former chairman of the Media Ratings Council (MRC) and the Advertising Research Foundation (ARF). He remains a board member of both the MRC and ARF and serves on the executive committee of CIMM (the Coalition for Innovation in Media Measurement).
