Off Camera with. . . Lisa Kerney
Editor’s note: Welcome to “Off Camera with. . .,” a Front Row series that introduces you to some of the studio anchors and hosts at ESPN. Today, we meet Lisa Kerney, who joined ESPN earlier this year as a studio anchor.
What’s something we don’t know about you? I’m a point guard at heart! I played college basketball my first two years at Northern Colorado before transferring to Lynn University [in Boca Raton, Fla.], where I served as captain my junior and senior seasons. I graduated in 2004 and was named Female Athlete of the Year. Growing up, I was a huge “gym rat” and lived at open gyms and could shoot baskets by myself for hours. I still keep my Adidas practice shoes and a basketball in my car just in case I find a few spare minutes and an empty basketball court with an open door.
What’s your hidden talent? My hidden talent may not be such a secret anymore! I absolutely love to bake, especially cookies, and my colleagues are my lucky (or unlucky!) guinea pigs. I don’t usually go more than a week without arriving at work with a plate full of my latest creation. My go-to recipe right now is “oatmeal white chip apricot” cookies spiked with wheat germ and flaxseed! They are the healthiest version of ooey-gooey goodness that I could come up with so you don’t have to feel guilty eating them (and, by the way, they’re amazing!), so indulge! I’ve also been experimenting with “banana butterscotch chocolate chip” cookies…stay tuned. I frequently post pretty pictures of my baked goods on my twitter page so please follow me @lisakerneyESPN and tell me what you think.
What are you thankful for? I have been unbelievably blessed in my life through experiences and amazing people, but my husband [former NFL defensive lineman Patrick Kerney @PatrickKerney] and my two daughters are my everything! I never knew the level of love I would experience once I had a family of my own.
