Did you know that ESPN’s programming once included daily business news?

Nation’s Business Today was an hourlong news show on ESPN that premiered Nov. 4, 1985 and aired twice every weekday from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. ET. It was similar to the first news program shown on ESPN called Business Times. The two combined for more than seven years of streamlined news updates for those on the go – much like the idea behind the creation of SportsCenter.

On Sept. 27, 1991, ESPN returned to its original all-sports format by replacing the business news show with episodes of SportsCenter.

“We have decided to return to an all-sports format because our research has shown that ESPN viewers have come to expect sports news in the morning,” said Steve Bornstein, ESPN President from 1990-98.

Constantly evolving to meet the ever-changing needs of sports fans has always been – and continues to be – a priority at ESPN.
