Get Up!’s Rose explains how his grandma’s “duel” with Sister Jean started

ESPN host says family inspired video idea featuring Mary Belle Hicks, 100

As ESPN commentator Jalen Rose preps for the launch of Get Up! with fellow co-hosts Michelle Beadle and Mike Greenberg, his grandma Mary Belle Hicks is ready for the Michigan versus Loyola-Chicago semifinal game tomorrow in the NCAA Men’s Final Four.

The 100-year old Michigan fan – her grandson Rose was a member of the Wolverines’ storied “Fab 5” in the early 1990s – recorded a video earlier in the week trash talking Loyola’s now-famous team chaplain Sister Jean, 98.

Grandma’s video went viral, or, as Rose says in the interview above explaining how the video came to be, “So congratulations Sister Jean and Grammy, you have become the talk of the Final Four.”

Today in San Antonio, site of the men’s Final Four, Sister Jean responded.

ESPN’s new morning show Get Up! debuts Monday, April 2, at 7 a.m. ET on ESPN. In the video below, Rose gives ABC’sGood Morning America a tour of Get Up!’s Seaport District studios in New York City.

Belen Michelis, Jennifer Christie and Jay Jay Nesheim produced the video above.
