How ESPN Brings the Premier Lacrosse League College Draft to Life in Bristol

The PLL Draft studio on ESPN’s Bristol campus.

ESPN+ will stream the 2025 Premier Lacrosse League College Draft live from ESPN’s Bristol headquarters on Tuesday, May 6 (7 p.m. ET). With PLL coaches and league executives on-site, the show is the result of a close collaboration between ESPN and PLL – and months of planning by the production and directing teams.

Front Row caught up with Michael Diesenhof (Producer, II) and Robert Bentley (Director, II) to learn what it takes to bring a live draft show to life on ESPN’s campus.

What makes producing a live draft show like this different from other live events ESPN hosts on-campus?
Robert:
Having each PLL coach physically on campus and actively participating in the draft gives the show a unique energy. It allows viewers to immediately understand each team’s strategy and thought process behind every pick. The PLL team is also highly collaborative and nimble, which makes for a dynamic production environment.

What roles do different ESPN departments play in bringing an event like this to life – from studio operations to marketing to production management?
Michael:
It takes a village – studio operations, marketing, production management and so many more. Each department plays a critical role, and while their day-to-day tasks may differ, they’re all aligned around our central mission: serving the fan.

What’s something viewers won’t see on air that you think really showcases the effort and teamwork behind the scenes?
Robert:
The incredible collaboration that happens across teams. Viewers might not see the software engineers, graphic designers, production assistants, sound techs and camera operators – but every one of them is essential to making the show happen. It’s truly an all-hands-on-deck effort.

How does hosting the draft here in Bristol help strengthen ESPN’s relationship with leagues like the PLL?
Michael:
This is the fourth year we’ve hosted the PLL Draft in Bristol, and over time, a strong trust has developed. The PLL knows that whatever they envision, we have the people and expertise to bring it to life. That trust is the foundation of a great partnership.

The stage is set for the PLL Draft on ESPN’s Bristol campus Tuesday night.
