Chris Golic is recognized for many things. She’s the wife of Mike & Mike co-host Mike Golic and the mom of former Notre Dame football players Mike Jr. and Jake — as well as current Fighting Irish swimmer Sydney. This week, Chris officially took on a new role as a member of The USA Football Heads Up Football Advisory Committee.

Consisting of 22 men and women representing youth football experts, retired NFL players, educators and medical professionals, the committee was created to advance Heads Up Football’s mission to promote player safety for children in all 50 states who love to play the sport and gain from its rewards.

“As a mom and as someone who spends much of her time around the game of football, Christine Golic will add the voice of football parents everywhere to the Heads Up Football Advisory Committee,” said Jeff Miller, NFL Senior Vice President of Health and Safety Policy. “We look forward to learning from her insight and to working with her to share the many benefits of football participation.”

In this week’s NFL Health and Safety Update, Golic described her reasons for accepting the invitation to participate: “I want to see the game made as safe as possible on every level for my kids and their kids.”

“Chris has a very unique view and understanding of the game, especially from the ‘foot soldier’ perspective as opposed to the superstar one,” Mike Golic said. “Bottom line: She can offer great information on how athletes handle injuries, including concussions, and how the youth league teaching can change the perception that football seems to have now.”

The full committee – which includes ESPN NFL analyst Merril Hoge — will be announced Thursday in New York during the group’s initial gathering.
