Blitz package: Clay Matthews and family team with ESPN CreativeWorks for PlayStation Vue spot

Building up to the kickoff of football season, ESPN CreativeWorks and Sony have collaborated on a new spot for PlayStation Vue, the pioneering live TV streaming service, featuring the NFL’s Matthews family. This is the latest project from CreativeWorks, ESPN’s in-house creative and strategic agency that produces custom advertising for ESPN as well as its advertising partners.

“Football VUEing Family” features Super Bowl XLV champion and Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews III, his father, Clay Jr., who played 19 seasons in the NFL, mother Leslie, brother Casey, who spent four seasons in the NFL, and sister Jennifer. The spot shows the family using PlayStation Vue to stream their favorite programs on five different devices all at the same time.

This marks the first time the Matthews family has shot a commercial together. It was filmed at Clay Jr.’s home of 31 years, where Clay III and Casey grew up in Southern California. Front Row spoke with the Packers Pro Bowl linebacker about his experience shooting the commercial with his family.

What was the experience like shooting this spot with your family?
It was awesome working with my family for the first time. We had a great time on set and fed off each other really well. The fact that we were able to incorporate a majority of my siblings made it all the more special.

How close is this spot to reality in your house?
The spot is very close to reality in my house simply because everyone is on their own and has their own daily routine. Being able to watch [cousin and Atlanta Falcons lineman] Jake and I from multiple devices allows us to stay even more connected.

When you’re not on the field, what are your favorite shows to stream?
I really enjoy watching “Game of Thrones” and “Silicon Valley.”
